In the movie Troy many people die, but it’s much more than just people dying. It’s about several hero’s who go on a journey and in the end become transformed because of the different challenges they face. For instance, Achilles starts out as a man who is a ruthless warrior who transforms into a hero that is sympathetic and no longer cares about fame. In the beginning of the story Achilles is living in Greece, which is his normal world. He doesn’t fight for one specific king because he feels that no one should be able to tell him what he has to do. Since he doesn’t battle for one king, his motivation comes from within, his pride and ego force him to fight because if he doesn’t fight he will no longer be the great Achilles. Achilles’s mother tells him that if he goes he will not come back but his name will live on forever. This shows that Achilles only cares about fame and having his name live on. The first challenge is when Achilles goes on the journey to Troy to fight with the Greeks. He doesn’t wait for the Greeks to make it to the shore before he attacks. Achilles and his group of companions, the Myrmidon, fight the Trojans pushing them back towards the Trojan wall. This shows that Achilles doesn’t want to fight with the Greeks and wants to gain all the fame for himself. In addition, Achilles still doesn’t mind killing others for the sake of gaining fame. As the movie progresses, Achilles and his Myrmidon go to the Temple of Apollo and they take Briseis, a priestess and cousin to Hector. Briseis acts as the damsel in distress because she is very vulnerable and later in the movie needs to be rescued by Achilles.
