Assertion: In the late 1580s, the English, led by John White setting up a colony on Roanoke Island, which now lies just off the coast of North Carolina in the USA. When they arrived at the island, they face immediate peril and John White decided that their only chance of survival was getting supplies from England. The trip takes longer than expected and the colonists had disappeared, including his daughter and granddaughter. Furthermore, he assumed they were fine and returned back to England. Some theories explaining what happened to the vanished colonists were that joined the local natives, the native Americans attacked them and covered up the assault, or they were sabotaged by the Spanish as a part of the war with England. They described them living two-story, thatched-roof stone houses – a style unique to the English people" and by the North Carolina settlers that, "The Croatoan language has many English sounding words. Furthermore, in Exhibit G-Name Records its stated that," In investigating the traditions of the natives living today near Roanoke historians have found many family names identical with those of the Lost Colony of 1587" and a large percentage of the natives had surnames that belonged to the English settlers. Finally, it conveyed in the timeline of Exhibit B that, "contact with the natives at first, relatively peaceful."
