The religious wars in France, Germany and the Netherlands consisted of the French Civil War, The Hapsburg- Valois Wars, and the Thirty Years’ War. This tension between the Protestants and the Catholics ran deep at this time and they battled constantly in the forms of kings and territorial wars. Through this whole time period these three countries constantly fought internal and external wars of religion. These wars of religion affected each country in different ways. France saw territorial expansion and an increase in political power, Germany saw a decentralization of power and the beginning of the end for the Holy Roman Empire, and The Dutch saw their independence from Charles V and Protestantism spread in the Netherlands.
