For twenty years Home Depot experienced tremendous success; however they were faced with hidden problems within the operation and finances. In December 2000 Robert Nardelli became the new CEO; his challenge was to correct the issues that plagued Home Depot. To achieve this Nardelli recognized that a change in culture was necessary. out of the gate, Home Depot was able to identify the industry in which it hoped to operate, and in 1979 when the original three Atlanta stores were opened and the four in South Florida in 1981, by 1983 it was operating in Louisiana and Arizona as well with sales exceeding $250 million. Further expansion and acquisitions have brought Home Depot’s operations to Canada, Mexico and the US with revenues over $78 billion (Home Depot SWOT, 2015).
