America’s First: George Washington Nia Neal American People I Professor Simonelli November 24, 2014 Abstract A name that stands out in U.S history more than many others is George Washington. George Washington was the first president of the United States. He gave his dedication long before presidency by serving his country as a soldier in the Revolutionary War and at the Constitutional Convention. He is a quiet man and always enjoyed spending time on his land in Mount Vernon, Virginia. This paper will discuss the importance George Washington has made on American history. As a newly created nation without a president, George Washington became its leader. He established numerous precedents which are still acknowledged today. Initially as Commander-in- Chief appointed by Congress during the Revolutionary War, he already had proved to be a powerful, resilient and encouraging leader. As a two term president, he never asked for a raise in pay or abused his power while in office. He was the true definition of democracy when America needed it most. He refused a third term, and retired to Mount Vernon in 1797 where he died…show more content…
The constitution was just recently ratified and the government was stronger than ever. The American people are looking for a leader: someone who has passion for democracy has experience in leadership and has wisdom. After a unanimous vote to become president, George Washington significantly influenced the path in making the presidency powerful enough to function effectively in a national government. For many people, he is the most legendary figure in American history. By setting standards in all aspects, including political power, military practice and economic policy, he has played an essential part in shaping the role and function of the United States’ executive branch and future presidential
