The film The Godfather was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film released on March 24, 1972. The film was the start of something new the way they filmed it. It beat all box offices releases in that time! The film had a budget of $6-7 million dollars to film it, it ended up crossing $245.1-286 million at box office! The Godfather back in its days pulled off so many new film techniques that people needed to watch the film twice or even more. Cinematography is the art of making motion pictures. Gordon Willis was the man who changed the modern cinematography back then, the way he shot “The Godfather”. One very important technique used in the film was the technique of lighting. Willis said “I didn’t give a shit whether I saw their eyes or not. My thought was that it was better not to see their eyes in some scenes. It seemed more appropriate not to see their eyes because of what was going on in their heads at certain moments.” The films dark look, by the less usage of lighting added so much emphasis in the way it wanted it to be perceived.…show more content…
We were showed how sound was a big part of it by always keeping the Don’s voice quiet because of the believe that powerful people don’t need to yell. Sound was incorporated to add tension. For example when Michael killed Sollozzo and McCluskey they didn’t add any music in the background it stopped at that moment and it didn’t start again until the end, after the murders were committed and then sound adds tensions because of the exaggerated key sound effects to reflect Michael’s emotional state, representing shocked or even revival of someone
