Moral Courage through Gymnastics On January 24, 2018 Larry Nassar was found guilty of sexual assault. Larry Nassar was a doctor for Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics. Nassar was with USA gymnastics for four Olympic Games. Some of the victims were famous champions like Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber (Levenson). The victims of Larry Nassar display moral courage by coming out publicly about the abuse they endured through their gymnastic career. Nassar was looked up as someone who was very respected and was going to help you with injuries. During this time Nassar took advantage of his role as a doctor and cared more about doing what pleasured him. Gymnast Rachael Denhollander said, “Larry is the most dangerous type of abuser. One who is capable of manipulating his victims through coldly calculated grooming methodologies, presenting the most wholesome and caring external persona as a deliberate means to ensure a steady stream of young children to assault” (Correa). Rachel Dehollander was the first woman to come out publicly and accuse Larry Nassar of sexual assault. Dehollander was sexually abused when she was 15 years old and filed a police report on August 29, 2016. It is definitely not easy to have the nation know about the abuse you suffered from someone you thought was going to help you with your pain. It's hard to read about all the victims who were sexually abused by Nassar and the challenges they endured because of his actions. The women who were abused by Nassar are courageous to come forward and testify against him. There are so many women who are victims of Nasser and together they are a group of strong and unstoppable women who will fight for justice.
