An Introduction to the Holy Quran through the Divine Names Introduction A lot of literature has been written about the Holy Quran. The Quran is the word of God; and thus, understanding the Quran leads to a better understanding of God. The Quran lists and illustrates many Names and Attributes of God that are essential to deeply knowing Him. This book will help to give the readers an introduction to the Quran through the most beautiful Divine Names. The book will discuss the Major categories of God’s Names which are: Mercy, Power, and Creation and discusses how they are stated in the Quran and their various meanings in different verses. This would allow the reader to comprehend many aspects that are discussed in the Quran through the understanding of the Divine Names. Al-Ghafaar “denotes an extreme of forgiveness in respect of forgiveness that is repeated time after time”, while Al-Ghafour means “that He forgives perfectly and completely and thereby reaches the ultimate degree of forgiveness” (Al-Ghazali, 1970). Forgiveness is a major attribute of God, and the Quran encourages humans to always seek God’s forgiveness; “Say, “O My servants who have been prodigal to the detriment of their own souls! Despair not from God’s Mercy. Truly God forgives all sins. Truly He is the Forgiving, the Merciful”” (7:53). This verse, along with many other verses illustrate that God’s forgiveness is always present for those who repent from their sins. Many versus also asks people to acquire the manner of Forgiveness; “And let not the men of bounty and means among you forswear giving to kinsfolk and the indigent and those who migrated in the way of God. And let them pardon and forbear. Do you not desire that God forgives you? Truly God is Forgiving, Merciful”
