Killing Candy’s dog was an ethical decision because the sheepdog was getting decrepit and sufferable. One reason was that carlson said that the shepherd dog has a really bad stench “God Almighty, that dog stinks. Get him outta here, Candy! I don’t know nothing that stinks as bad as an old dog. You gotta get him out.”(Steinbeck 44). Well Carlson even said more with “no teeth, and he stinks even when he is gone”(Steinbeck 44).In addition Slim agreed with Carlson, which gives him more back up. “Carls right, Candy. That dog ain’t no good to himself. I wisht somebody shoot me if I got old an’ a cripple”(Steinbeck 45). If Slim was old and a smelly dog he would be ok if he died because he smells.
