If everybody could be smart/ really intelligent, they would, but something like that takes time and courage and in the book “Flowers for Algernon,” written by Daniel Keyes he showed how big of an impact that may have on your life. 37 year old, Charlie Gordon was born with a learning disability so it made everything harder on him, as well as his family. Charlie stated in the story “I want to be smart like other people,” (225) and after he said those words there was no way this man was going to give up. He goes through so much throughout the entire book, ups and downs, falls in love, and for the very first time Charlie gets real feelings. (E) This connects to him losing all his memories, so now he no longer had the high intelligence he once had. According to the statement he had said to Miss Kinnian, he has to say goodbye because he will not remember her the way she will remember him. (D) Even though he knew the consequences Charlie was willing to risk it all, and he did but the consequences may be bigger than he had imagined. He got to fall in love with his teacher, and work the machine at Donnegan’s bakery that no one else had the capability to do. (E) After becoming smarter he realized what love is and that’s when Charlie Gordon said “I love Miss Kinnian,” (234) which he never would have expected those words to come out of his mouth. (E) The weakness here is the people Charlie made friends with or tried at least now do not want him around, and he is not the same anymore, Charlie has gotten rude. (D) Even though Charlie got to experience those wonderful feelings, he also during that time lost very important things that meant a lot to him. Ever since the surgery had taken place he had gotten smarter, but he was now able to yell back, curse, and say rude things that affected the people around
