The Broken Windows theory is a criminological principle created by Professor James Q. Wilson. It states that the cause and effects of social disorder in an urban setting can create additional crime and criminal behavior on top of what is already present (Mckee). James Q Wilson (May 27, 1931 – March 2, 2012) spent most of his career as a professor at Harvard University and UCLA. He also was a political scientist and an authoritative figure for public administration. He gained national attention for publishing an article in 1982 about the broken windows theory.
