The Articles of Confederation were the United States’s first attempt at creating an organized nation with a common system of laws. However, the all of the ordinances enacted within the document give most power to the States. Furthermore, in regards to important national issues, such as a war, the charter obligates at least nine of the thirteen states to agree upon the reaction to the task at hand. Likewise, the Second Article acknowledges each state as separate and sovereign entities connected by the treaty. In addition to this, the Third Article binds the different territories to come to each other’s defense when liberties and welfare are threatened.
