Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman are both topics that have been talked about widely in America. Many people have invented their own versions of this story including Washington Irving, who wrote the original story, Tim Burton, who directed a movie based on the myth, and Robert Lydecker and Brian Tyler who have created a very modern television series loosely based on this story. Despite having some similarities, the differences between “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Irving and the Sleepy Hollow movie and television series are very obvious and compelling. He had developed a large crush on Katrina Van Tassel, but not without the competition of Brom Bones who had singled her out as the object of his uncouth gallantries (Irving 8). Ichabod loved scary stories, but easily scared himself. In Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod is facing the option of going to prison for fighting for forensic investigation or going to Sleepy Hollow to investigate murders. He’s residing with Katrina and her family. He is very skeptical about the truth of the “ghost” until he sees him face to face. Katrina is a character in both of these stories who is involved with both Brom and Ichabod. While in the story, Ichabod is hopelessly in love with Katrina, Brom is the one who wins her heart in the end. After Ichabod disappears, Brom “conducted the blooming Katrina in triumph to the altar.” (Irving 16) Movie Katrina is in a relationship with Brom in the beginning, but once he gets cut in half by the Headless Horseman, she quickly realizes her heart is meant for Ichabod.
