Friedrich Nietzsche and Martin Luther King are two of the most well-known and respected philosophers. Although both great in their fields, these two possess many differences. Dr. King was historically one of the most famous men in history, he led the civil rights movement and paved the way for modern America. One of Dr. King’s most famous pieces, Letter from Birmingham Jail, portrays the thoughts of a strong devoted man. This famous piece was written while Dr. King was incarcerated. This letter very well could be one of the most important writings of the Civil Rights Movement. Nietzsche was a very bright young philosopher who published the brilliantly written, Beyond Good and Evil. The master morality encouraged freedom, strength, power, and achievement. The slave morality valued forgiveness, charity, and sympathy. The master morality concluded certain qualities were good, such as power and strength. These qualities were a source of fear for the slave morality and were deemed evil. Nietzsche associated reform movements such as Christianity and Democracy with the slave morality. The will to power was a major belief system of Nietzsche. This belief explained the essential driving force behind human behavior, also exploitation of the weak by the strong was the nature of life. Nietzsche felt that a Master Class was essential for a civilization to advance, without this Master Class no progress would be made. His model for civilization is both harsh and critical. Nietzsche's opinion about language clearly explains his aphoristic style. Instead of presenting one very strong argument, Nietzsche conquers the topic from as many points of view as possible. Nietzsche’s work although dense at first sight, with further examination is a deep and thought provoking work that paves the way for modern day
