In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, numerous topics and problems dealing with the Russian Revolution are addressed. To be specific, one main example of a topic that is designated in this book is communism. Communism is a political theory derived from Karl Marx, which advocates class wars and leads to a society where every person is paid according to their needs and all property is owned by the public. In Animal Farm communism is represented by Old Major when he gives his speech, which was basically just a simplified version of the Communist Manifesto. Moreover, the Communist Manifesto was a book that laid out the basic principles of communism. It was written and published by both Karl Marx and Frederick Engels in 1848. George Orwell represents the Communist Manifesto through Old Major’s dream and speech which talks about communism, encourages the unitement of all working classes and rebellion. Several examples of the Communist Manifesto are shown when Old Major gives his speech to the animals and shares the wisdom he was given during his dream the night before, such as rebellion and uniting. To illustrate this, Old Major expresses multiple quotes while giving his speech to the animals which encourage uniting and the need for a rebellion. All of his quotes are quite similar to those of Karl Marx in the Communist Manifesto. Another way that these two books are represented by each other, is through the major topic of communism.
