Afghanistan is a country where more than half girls are married or engaged before they are 18. This essay looked at how child marriages affect the development of Afghanistan and its solutions. The root of child marriages is gender inequality, often caused by poverty, security, and traditions. Child brides are less likely to remain in school, more likely to experience domestic violence, and more likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth. However the problem remains unsolved most of the times because women are uneducated and thus not empowered. There are only a few female politicians that could make policies and laws to protect women.
