Some of those byproducts are moved into the plants, they may travel into intercellular spaces and the vascular system. Intercellular spaces are spaces between the cells and the vascular system is where sap is carried to the rest of cell and is made up of plant tissue. The cell membranes are damaged by the hydrocarbon molecules released. Oil also blocks the stomata of a plant. When the stomata and the intercellular have oil it affects the process of transpiration. Over time the byproducts are accumulating and there is when photosynthesis is reduced. Oil can have a mitochondrial damage of the cell that increases of respiration rate, which is harmful for a plant. Based on my research oil is harmful to all plants. Growing a plant with sunlight or under some growlight the effects of the used motor oil will be the same. Also according to my research will help me with my project to know if used motor oil is dumped on soil that has grass seeds, then it will have the effect of growing shorter than grass growing in a non-oil soil
