Did you know the Arctic fox has the warmest fleece of any animal found in the Arctic? It can endure temperatures as low as -50 °C before its metabolism increases to provide warmth. The Arctic fox has many physical features that help protect it and keep it warm in the harsh weather conditions. One physical characteristic about the fox is that it has a really abundant and woolly fur to help keep it warm in the Arctic. Second physical characteristic is that they have genuinely tiny ears that are curved off to help them control sound location. Also having the rounded ears helps so that their bodies do not lose heat. Arctic foxes have features on their feet called, footpads. These footpads are covered in fur to prevent frostbite from appearing on their feet. They are distributed throughout the Arctic Circle. The Arctic Circle goes along the coasts of North America, Europe, and Asia. These foxes all have preferred habitats, which are: arctic, alpine tundra’s, and ice covered seas. Arctic foxes are native to the cold atmosphere of the northern hemisphere. These foxes can be found anywhere throughout the arctic. They live in places such as the outer edges of Greenland, Russia, Canada, Alaska, Iceland, and other locations. The Arctic Fox is, in fact, the only land mammal native to Iceland. The combined populations in Finland, Norway, and Sweden are an estimate of about a mere 120 adult individuals. They can live in temperatures that range from -76 to 68 degrees. Their furry coats change from season to season. Their fur turns white in the winter to blend in with the surroundings.
