In the poem “A Story” by Li-Young Lee conveys the complex relationship between a father and son showing the innocent supplication of the boy looking to the thoughtfully distant father for stories. Through different literary techniques the poet conveys the father and son separately to show both sides of the relationship and give us a closer view to what their relationship is and will become. After analyzing the poem I saw a how the poet used different points of view to portray the relationship between father and son. The poem starts with “Sad is the man who is asked for a story and can’t come up with one.” That immediately gives us the perspective of the poem, limited omniscient, focusing a third- person narration through the eyes of one person.
