Alexander The Great Alexander the Great was a great king for the Macedonian empire. He conquered Greece and crushed the Persians to take over the Asia Minor. Many of the peoples whose lands were taken over tried to rebel. Alexander put them in their place and made sure nobody could overthrow him. Alexander the Great was important to the Macedonian empire because he expanded his empire and protected his people, by punishing the people who rebelled and killed any invaders. Alexander the Great was a ruler of Macedonia over his father Philip and his mother Olympias. He was born in 356 B.C and spent most of his childhood watching his father shape the macedonian empire. He built a city after his name and he decided to go see the oracle of Amon-Ra the sun god. It is said that when he passed through the desert to talk to this oracle that their were plentiful amounts of rain and Ravens guided him to the oracle. Once he met the oracle the oracle supposedly said he was a descendent of Amon-Ra and that he was a god to rule the world. Alexander invaded India, he invaded Punjab. One of the greatest battles was at the Hydaspes river when he battled against king Porus. They eventually captured king Porus and won the battle, they let king Porus rule the land as a governor. During this battle though, Alexander’s horse Bucephalus was wounded and later died. Alexander had always rode his horse into battle so when Bucephalus died he was in shock and was full of grief. He eventually named a place after his horse in memoriam of Bucephalus. Alexander fought on for a short period of time and did not advance because of reports of larger stronger armies filled with elephants and chariots. The Macedonians built ships and sailed down the Hydaspes river and attacked many Indian villages along the way. During this Alexander was severely injured when he went to a war-like village called Malli and was hit in the ribcage with an arrow that pierced through his armour.
