Television has a huge impact on the world’s view on just about everything. In this paper I will be discussing African Americans and their portrayal on television. Though the quantity of African American images had increased in the media, the quality of these images has not (Greenberg, Mastro and Brand). African American portrayal on Television has set public perceptions of African Americans. This has influence the evaluation of African Americans and effected the views of African Americans to viewers of all ages and races (Davis and Gandy). This is how certain stigmas of African American cultures are created and widely shared. Blacks are portrayed (Armstrong, Neuendrof and Brentar) (Page) on TV as negative characters with basic African American jobs. Though there are some positive influences on TV, it was proven in this paper that there is not enough to change the stigma built from the decades of Black TV.
