How a child should be disciplined is a controversial issue with opinions that vary from people with different viewpoints. Those who were raised in a household where physical discipline was used believe it is an effective method to raise a child. Contrary to this, some believe any form of intentional harm to discipline a child is dangerous for their mental and physical health. Using physical force to discipline a child is merely a cultural norm for some, and is taboo for others. NFL star running back, Adrian Peterson, turned himself in early Saturday morning following a warrant for his arrest being issued. Peterson told police Anytime I spank my kids, I talk to them before, let them know what they did, and of course after.“ When asked how he felt about the indictment, he responded, “To be honest with you, I feel very confident with my actions because I knew my intent.” Peterson also justified the beatings by saying he would never “eliminate whooping my kids… because I know how being spanked has helped me in my life.” In a statement, Peterson’s lawyer described him as a “loving father who used his judgement in order to discipline his son.” Adrian Peterson’s case is bringing mixed opinions from people of different backgrounds.
