Wrestling is one of the oldest sports in the world that is still extremely competitive today. Wrestling is a sport where the pressure is all on one individual against another. There is a lot that is expected from every wrestler. Wrestlers experience cauliflower ear, skin infections, and dehydration from drastic weight loss. Wrestling is a sport that demands a lot from the athletes that choose this sport. Receiving blows to the head is something that is expected from wrestling. Causes of this happening are usually from your ears constantly being rubbed against the mat. This happening more and more often results in blood clots developing in the ear. This causes misshaped ears and bumpy outer ears. Cauliflower ear is not a pretty sight and is extremely noticeable. When the athlete receives cauliflower ear, they will have it for the rest of their life. Some of the wrestlers end up doing mixed martial arts when they are done with their wrestling careers. These athletes receive their infections from the wrestling mats, chairs, headgear, towels, and their uniforms. There are many skin infections that a wrestler can receive. Some of these skin infections are ringworm, impetigo, herpes simplex, molluscum contageosum, bacterial folliculitis, and methecillin resistant staph. All of these skin infections are very nasty to look at, but some are much more severe than the others. Some of these skin infections require some type of ointment for treatment, but others require seeing the doctor to remove or drain the infection.
