The documentary I watch was “Wal-Mart: High Cost of Low Prices”. The conclusion of the documentary was very clear. It expressed why you should not work at Wal-Mart and do not shop at Wal-Mart either. Throughout the documentary there were many different reasons why you should not work at Wal-Mart. Along, with ex-associate workers being interviewed and what they had to say about working at Wal-Mart. Also, in the film it showed what workers did in the factory and what the conditions were like in those different factories. If we stop shopping at Wal-Mart those terrible conditions will go away. One major reason in the film Wal-Mart sucks is due to the fact has had many different crimes happening in their parking lot, concluding to some people dying.…show more content…
The working conditions are terrible. Working in the factories require about 14 hours a day and only getting paid around $0.17 a day. If the workers made a mistake they would get beaten or fired. The factories are very hot to work at. In some of areas there are little to no fans. Workers are drenched in sweat all day long. The workers have the choice to live in the dorm or in another place. If you live in the dorm there is a deductible also they have to pay for the rent and utilities based on how much a person uses it. The meals that the factory hold are disgusting according to a worker. With factories on days inspections would come to make sure the factories were human environment. An employee stated that a couple of days before the inspection that there would be classes how to lie and then a fake inspector would come by and if they could lie good they would get a reward and if not they would get beaten or fire. The employees had to lie about how many days they work. They are required to work six days, but the workers worked everyday which makes seven. Jim Bill Lynn, an ex Wal-Mart global service operation, seen it all. His job was to go into the factories in make sure that they were human environments to work it. He recalled one day after the job he went to the hotel room called his wife and he wept the whole night. When he told reported the issue he was so upset that nothing was done to fix…show more content…
With these rates it is an extra seventy-five dollars out of there income. Which is a lot of money that some employees are not getting with each paycheck. The cost of this care is so expensive that some of the employees can not afford to put their own children on. Which is an awful feeling to some of them due to the fact they can not even help their own child. One employee expressed when someone is sick they either buy medicine or they eat. Which she said they gave them an aspirin and hoped. It got to a point that the company even encouraged workers to go on WelFare. So instead of turning to their company they are having the government help them with health care needs. Finally, small town stores are closing down due to Wal-Mart moving in. In the documentary many stores had to close down. No matter how long the store has in been in business. They had to close down since they could not compete with something like Wal-Mart. Which takes away from the small town feel in a community. With the feel the owners small town knows the customer on a personal level. Also, with Wal-Mart barging into many different towns it takes away the people who work there
