Ilan Gofman Mesopotamia: 1) Why is it called the Cradle of Civilization? It is called the cradle of civilization because it was the first time that civilized societies began to form. Communities and states took place in the civilization. It was the first time writing was used. It was the first time that society had to follow rules and laws. The development of Mesopotamia was the start of the development of modern society. 2) Why was this region the location of the earliest civilizations? The name Mesopotamia means “between rivers”, this is referred to the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. Eventually Mesopotamia expanded to include a lot of Iraq, Eastern Syria and bits of Turkey and Egypt. The weather was very hot in the summer.
