The mood of this book changes based on the location the section happens to take place in. There are three main moods, which are: depressing, luxurious, and corrupt. The author achieves this mood change by changing the character being described and the location of the character. The first chapter, for example, has a depressing mood. It is filled with poverty, despair, and longing for a life other than the current character has. The author creates a sense of sympathy for the suffering that Rosalind face in this chapter. In the scenes that take place inside of Jason Cameron's mansion, the reader gets a very luxurious feel. After all, the man has enough money to fling at anything the heart would happen to fancy.
