At the start of the story, Juan worries about the letter he wrote to Mariana. He fears that something might happen to her because of what he wrote. Although he knew the letter was harmless and irreproachable, he worries the Censor’s Secret Command might believe otherwise and, possibly, kidnap Mariana. Based on this paragraph, it shows the readers, Juan is afraid the letter might jeopardize his life and Mariana. Through this paragraph, it allows us to understand Juan is compassionate person. After he wrote and sent the letter to Mariana, he knew it might harm and cause trouble for her. After all, he did not want her to experience more difficulties in Paris.
