At the start of the story, Juan worries about the letter he wrote to Mariana. He fears that something might happen to her because of what he wrote. Although he knew the letter was harmless and irreproachable, he worries the Censor’s Secret Command might believe otherwise and, possibly, kidnap Mariana.
