Flexion is a movement in which the angle between two body segments gets smaller. For the neck, this includes the movement in which the chin is lowered down toward the chest, where an increased positive flexion means the chin is closer to the chest and a negative flexion (or extension) means the neck tips backwards. Lateral flexion which may be described as trying to place the ear upon the shoulder through a sideways movement of the neck. In the case of the neck, over flexion can be the result of injury or trauma, such as whiplash, or of detrimental health, such as in the case of bone degradation or spinal curvature. In this analysis, comparisons between gender, symptomatic and asymptomatic groups and the connections between the two are tested.
