In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the kids who are stranded on the island create a fire for light, cooking, and rescue. The fire that they make symbolizes their desire to leaving. At first their desire is hug and bright like the sun, but after a while it fades away like clouds after a rainy day. Fire also symbolized as destruction since on the island there aren’t any rules or order. Fire means desire and destruction that is caused by rules and order. When the fire was first made “the flame, nearly invisible at first in that bright sunlight, enveloped a small twig, grew, was enriched with color and reached up to a branch which exploded with a sharp crack.
