Vitiligo is one of the most common skin disorders that dates back to 1500 BC in ancient Egypt, that’s like a million year old! While it is common, what exactly is vitiligo? To some it is known by “Leukoderma”, “Piebald skin”, or “Depigmentation” but these names all have the same symptoms of vitiligo which is the loss of color in our skin around any part of the body. Vitiligo is a chronic skin disorder, meaning its life lasting and there’s a 1 out of a 100 chance of it ever fading away even with treatment. Every now and then, you may see a person with their arm or neck as a different color, which is possibly vitiligo. A friend of yours you haven’t seen in a while could have depigmentation on their face the next time you see them and you would start to wonder, “what happened?” or “how can this prevented”. Some embrace their skin as a opportunity as most do while some use makeup to hide their blemishes , for example, Michael Jackson had vitiligo but over the years it increased over his body. The reason for the title ‘the beauty of vitiligo’ is because, it shows a literal difference. That you are not like the rest and that these blemishes prove it. Vitiligo is actually the symbol of difference and difference is true beauty. It shows the opposite of perfection and like before, some embrace this beauty. Vitligo causes so many issues within people but I do not think that they should feel depression because of their skin. When I asked locals who I knew with vitiligo, they said that they use to think they were very ugly but in all reality, they were truly beautiful and different within their skin.
