Tyler Oakley, Youtuber personality, accepted the Trevor Youth Innovator Award at the TrevorLIVE in New York City last night for raising $555,157 in donations for The Trevor Project through his Youtube channel. Oakley said that his birthday campaign earlier in the year on his Youtube channel originally had a goal of raising $150,000 with the help of his viewers. It was all about “giving young people the same encouragement that I was given,” he said.
He also described the impact of reading a suicide letter had on him in 2008, when he was 19 years old, from a young man who felt hopeless and alone. The Youtuber said that it was something unfathomable to him for someone to be mistreated and left alone just because of his sexual preferences. That
