The very first thing I felt at the beginning of the film was disgust. I was disgusted with the way people were treating Trevor; his teachers, parents, peers, and even community members. I was disgusted by the unchecked bullying and the students who watched and laughed as other students cried out in pain and anger. I was disgusted with the school’s response to Trevor, the singling out and scapegoating.
As the movie progressed I felt hope and pride over the actions and behaviors of the new girl and her refusal to succumb to the opinions of others. Fear over the Trog’s influence on Trevor, each other, and themselves. Hope as Mr. Duncan reached out to Trevor on a personal level. As a victim of bullying in high school, this movie made me cry. I
