The Sniper, by Liam O'Flaherty, is a novel that articulates the concept of ‘no one wins in war’ as well as the interrelated theme, ‘war is hell’. In the first paragraph, the story’s setting begins to show signs of darker overtones. Additionally, O’Flaherty illustrates the concept several times throughout the story in an array of facets.
