A Conflict Between Brothers There are no benefits from wars, yet they still happen. Cities are destroyed, people die, and everyone’s angry. What’s the point of having war and everyone having a conflict with each other? I don’t think anyone would like to be split from their family and be turned against their relatives. There are many stories that can prove how bad wars are, such as “The Sniper’. In “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty the three most important parts of a short story are: setting, plot, and theme. “The Sniper” is a story that is set almost 100 years ago. It is midnight and really dark, but you can hear guns firing. The story is during Civil War in Ireland, Dublin. The Sniper sits at a rooftop in a small street and is watching the war. He isn’t very happy about it, but he knows he can’t prevent it. O’Flaherty describes an original setting that is set in the past. Combined with the plot, it makes a very good story.…show more content…
A plot is a sequence of events that relate to one another, usually in chronological order. The author begins the story by describing the setting and the main character. The Sniper risks lighting a cigarette while observing the enemy. Almost immediately, a bullet barely misses him. Then, he sees an enemy car. When a soldier comes out of the car, he shoots him. Next, the Sniper notices another sniper across the street who tries to kill him, so he pretends to be dead. The other sniper gets tricked. He gets up and fires; the plan works, and the sniper is dead. When he thought everything went very well and nothing could go wrong at that time, he realizes he shot his brother. “Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother's face”. This plot is interesting and shows what can happen during a war. Now, what is the lesson in the whole story? Let’s get to that
