Internet Censorship Is Needed Now More than Ever Over the past decade the internet has gained its popularity at a massive rate. As we all know, the internet is a significant tool for communication which has proved to be very convenient and efficient in connecting the whole world. Unfortunately the internet has severe drawbacks. Since the internet is broad and open, there are a lot of unwarranted materials on it such as pornography and violence that require strict limitations. Internet censorship is a very controversial issue, and although it may be a double- edged sword, the advantages of censoring the internet overweight the disadvantages. Governments should censor the internet in order to protect children from inappropriate material, fight cyber bullying and eradicate terroristic attempts. However, internet censorship is favored by many because children are always going to have a high level of curiosity and they are going to seek out images that they know are forbidden. Moreover, violent and damaging websites could show, with lack of internet censorship, even if the child hasn’t actually searched for them leading to a severely irreversible and dangerous effect on the healthy mental and psychological growth of children. Some website are targeted to trap children and eventually implement violent aims. Censorship can cleanse the internet information in order to prevent such material from reaching its intended target. Children could be easily trapped into dangerous websites. It’s not a matter of trust at all because a child could be trustworthy but the internet has all sort of information put together in one place.
