Lupe Rivera is a Mexican American living in California. Lupe stands out from the neighborhood public sphere on her street .In Manuel Munoz’s The Comeuppance of Lupe Rivera, Lupe’s lifestyle draws in the girls in her neighborhood that many of the neighborhood girls looked up to at a younger age. The private sphere boundaries that were apart of Lupe’s life resulted in the neighborhood girls exploring Lupe’s life outside of their public sphere. One of the norms of the public sphere I got from the story is marriage. In the beginning of the reading, Munoz points out that Terry, Nicole, and Kristen are three girls who lived on the same street as Lupe became married. The author also centers in on the three girls in the neighborhood.
