Most of us have, at some point or another, heard of how, “9/11 was such a travesty,” or that, “the refugee crisis is the biggest travesty human beings are facing.” To one who does not know what the word means, it may seem as thought the authors are speaking of tragedy, disaster or so. When the words’ meanings evolve to a degree where one can no longer connect it to the original meaning, not only has it lost its value, but also humor.
