What is the importance of forest that makes all the living organisms lives depend on them? Forest is a natural gift from our mother earth that supplies habitat for living organisms, food, oxygen and natural resources. What is the definition of deforestation? It is an activity which brings permanent damage to the forests and make uses of the land for other purposes. There is about an estimated of 18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of trees are chopped down which is roughly the size of the country, Panama according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). According to the World Conservation Union's 2007 Red List of Threatened Species, more than 16,300 species of animals and plants are been driven to the borderline of extinct from the planet. (Andrea, 2007) One of the example is Orang-utans. Orang-utans are losing their habitats and food resources as their home was been chopped down for the establishment of oil palm plantation in Indonesia. (World Wildlife Fund (WWF), 2014) Deforestation has caused the loss of habitats for animals and plants which leads to species extinction and the issues are becoming serious in this stage. (Web of Creation, 2013) In the past 500 years, we know of approximately 1,000 species that have gone extinct. In the latest four-year endangered species assessment, the IUCN reports that the world couldn’t complete the target of altering the extinction trend toward species extinction. (Noah, 2014) There is some preventive and corrective measures that have been done by the humans in order to save the earth. Reforestation should be took into the place. Trees can be planted in your yard because trees give off oxygen that is important for human existence. Recycled paper such as books and pad paper are used to prevent any waste of resources. Crop rotation is suggested if you are a farmer. It saves you from developing a new land for farming and crop rotation can help in maintaining the fertility of the soil. (Nathalie,
