Women have been seen less worthy in the eyes of men throughout many years, and it is very common that women are still judged heavily by males in the society of today. Lisbeth Salander unites with Blomkvist in an investigation that’s is looking for clues for a special case of murders from a sick serial killer. Through the development of the novel we learn gruesome experiences in Lisbeth past, that made her the women she is. She gained certain characteristics of special characteristics, and these characteristics help her survive terrible, long-term physical, sexual and emotional abuse. Lisbeth, from the life she has gone through, she could of been a person with a lot of traumatic problem and depression. However, she survives these traumas. She learns good skills that help her be able to survive them. Abuse is shown through the character of Bjurman who forces Salander to perform a sexual act in exchange for access to her finances and then brutally rapes her. “The authorities rarely punish assaults against women and that women rarely report them because violence against women occurs as an accepted part of Swedish society.” (Source #2). This leaves her that women should defend themselves because nobody is going to do it for them. Salander begins to evolve and become tough and she is not going to let anybody mess with her. Abuse is mostly represented in rape mixed with revenge, and murder. Rape mixed with revenge because Salander also rapes his tutor for the sake of revenge. She did it because he wanted to make Bjurman suffer what she suffered for many years. The most suffering is the memories you hold
