Effectuation theory (Sarasvathy 2001; 2008) identifies two sorts of new venture creation processes as causation and effectuation. These distinct logics are differentiated in terms of choice sets and defined as: “…choosing between means to create a particular effect, versus choosing between many possible effects using a particular set of means” (Sarasvathy 2001: 245).
