Sleep is NOT a bank. You can’t store it up and then go days on little sleep. Nor can you overdraw without penalty and then make up sleep needs on weekends (Crean, 2014). Sleep is one of the basic necessities of human beings which play a vital role in their lives. It is an undeniable fact that a good night sleep can boost the mood and memory of anyone. Sleep is important especially to students, yet in reality, they give greater importance to their academics than sleep.
In educational institutions, success is measured by academic performance, or how well a student meets standards set out by local government and the institution itself (Bell, n.d.).
Parents care about their child's academic performance because they believe good academic results…show more content… However, education requires a manifold of matters and sleep is a part of it.
With the issues regarding the effects of sleep deprivation, this study aims to reveal the effect of sleep deprivation on the Academic performance of grade 10 students in Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Bataan, since they are next in line to move up to Senior High School and is more prone to sleep deprivation due to a workload of requirements. This aspiration is based on the assumption of the researchers that there is a positive correlation between the number of hours a student sleeps and their academic performance, that the higher the number of sleep, the better their academic performance will be.
The significance of this study is that it will greatly affect a huge aspect of life for students. Hypothesis: Most of the students have grade ranging from eighty five percent to ninety percent, thus their academic performance is proficient.

Scope and Delimitation This study on the effects of sleep deprivation on the academic performance of grade 10 students will consist of respondents from the basic education department of Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Bataan. It will be conducted during the second semester of the School Year 2017-2018. To gather the necessary data for the study, the researchers will make use of a questionnaire tackling the sleep patterns of the respondents as well as their general average in order to assess the relationship between the two
