The crusades were a series of wars during the High MIddle Ages ( 1050 - 1300 CE ) where the Christians of Europe attempted to regain control of the holy lands from the Muslim turks. While a few negatives experiences results from the crusades, overall they were worthwhile for the people of Europe. The negative aspects of the crusades were harsh and brutal. 200 years of fighting lead to slaughter of innocent people with numbers of death being inconclusive. The crusades didn’t only impact adults but children who followed a young shepherd boy to fight in the holy lands. Thousands of children died fighting , more deaths occurred when the ship they boarded sank in the Mediterranean Sea. Those who survived were imprisoned and sold as slaves in Egypt. When different groups of the crusades reached the holy lands, many escalated quickly into other countries to live a better life. For example criminals were allowed to escape their punishment if they went to fight for the Christian armies. Instead when they reached the holy lands, concentrated on making money by robbing and killing the innocent which allowed them to receive riches and new land to live on.…show more content…
Europeans came back from the crusades and learnt the Muslim ways of doing things, which were more advanced than previous methods. New ideas such as clothing designs, architecture, religion, philosophy and jobs were incorporated into their daily lives. Many crusades got use to the cleanness and comfort from the holy lands , they returned to Europe with new equipment which intrigued others to import mattresses and soap which stopped many diseases. With all the traveling from importing goods from the holy lands, Europeans learnt more about geography, ship building and road
