a. Explain why effective communication is important in developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults. Effective communication does not happen automatically; it needs to be thought about and considered, and uses clear, consistent and appropriate language. Effective communication is not just about oral communication, it is all encompassing. The way you approach someone and respond to them will have an impact on how well you are able to communicate with them. The communication needs to be consistent, in order for it to be effectively modelled for others, especially when working with children. There are many required relationships within a school setting including those between teacher and student, teacher and parent, teachers and teaching assistants. These relationships will not automatically be positive, but can be worked at to ensure they are positive. Communication can have a large impact on a relationship. Poor or ineffective communication can lead to uncertainty, unrest and a lack of understanding, which could mean that vital information is not shared with the relevant people. Good communication helps us to build positive relationships, as there is a clear understanding by each party as to what is required. In turn, by having a positive relationship, communication is likely to be more effective as each party is more willing to be open and share information if they have a good
