Secretariat was known as one of the best race horses to ever race; he had the motivation, determination and drive to never give up and so did his owner Penny Chenery. Throughout Secretariat you saw the motivation and drive to prove people anything is possible if you believe and work hard. In this paper I will explore a few theories that you continually saw throughout the movie. The theories that take part in Secretariat were feminist theory, conflict theory and functionalist theory. Sage and Eitzen, (2013) states that one of the myths for feminist theory was “Women are not interested in, or very good at, sports”. Penny Chenery proves this statement to be a myth; Penny was interested in horse racing and Penny was good at decision making for Secretariat; She did pick the best foal did she not? Dewar, (1993) stated that being a woman dealing with sport can often be risky, because those women are the ones who usually have the most to lose and Penny had a lot to lose.
