A survey to determine a superintendent’s leadership practices will be administered electronically to all currently employed Montana superintendents during the 2015-16 school year. Data will also be collected on a district’s CRT Science scores, Composite ACT scores, graduation rates, and dropout rates. The results will be compared using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient to determine the magnitude, if any, between the two constructs of superintendent leadership practices and district effectiveness. SPSS software will be utilized to aid in the analysis of the data. While there are numerous studies on educational leadership, the author could find no studies reviewing the specific relationship between a superintendent’s instructional leadership practices and a district’s effectiveness as measured by student achievement, graduation rates, and dropout rates. This study is designed to explore this relationship, if it exists, to further contribute to the development and refinement of educational instructional leadership and practice in our Montana public school
