The first symbolic act of the movie occurs in the opening scene when Evelyn plans to deface the “fake Fornacelli” statue using a can of spray paint. Adam, working as a museum guard, initially intends to stop her, but instead ends up having her phone number spray painted onto the inside of his jacket and walking away without preventing her from vandalizing the artwork. This scene represents the first symbolic meaning of manipulation. The director had Evelyn use manipulation throughout the movie to get what she wants. In the aforementioned first scene, Evelyn is for the first time successful in manipulating Adam to not only walk away from an act of illegality (which may see him fired as a security guard), but also in allowing his favorite jacket
