Sadness is one of the things that most of us keep. Whenever we are asked if anything is wrong we only respond: "I'm fine" even if it is blatantly obvious by our expressions and actions that we are not. This is because of the fact that if we let our feelings out the conversation that will about to occur will make us feel worse. It makes us feel that displaying our vulnerability might result others to react in a way that we do not want, we are afraid of being judged. But, Laurel Nakadate in her 365 Days: A Catalouge of Tears, had all the courage to display herself weeping every single day of the year, because of the reason that a lot of people nowadays are always pretending to be happy. People are always posting photos on Facebook or on other social media sites where they look happy and enjoying life, but Nakadate thought of a thing in which she will capture the sadness that is truly…show more content… Laurel Nakadate shows her emotions through photography by the manifestation of her own tears. Tears are the most expressive form of reaction. Those salty droplets that drip on our face can be associated into sadness, grief and even joy. We cry in sadness, but also from joy and laughter. A tear can be rooted from different things even from chopping an onion. But, she chose to "deliberately take part in sadness the way people deliberately take part in happiness" (qtd. in Pearson). If tears are to be viewed in a universal terms, it will signify sadness. According to her, those tears that she captured were from the remnants of the past including the death of her pet and previous failed relationships. She chooses to let the sad part of her life to be shown for a year, unlike other people who are hiding behind the smiles that they manage the make every single
