On April 5, 1764 the Sugar Act was passed by Parliament. The Sugar Act of 1764 was an altered version of the Sugar Act of 1733. The result of the Sugar Act placed taxes on sugar, molasses, indigo, coffees, wines, and other products that were commonly used by the colonists. The colonists were upset because they now had to pay taxes on their products that they commonly used. If the Colonists bought any of these products from the British West Indies, they had to pay taxes.
