Dragons are powerful creatures. Many people think that dragons can only be defeated by a shiny knight with fancy armor. Dragons are scary animals that breathe fire, and destroy everything and anything in their way. Many students in high school have a dragon they need to defeat throughout their high school life. Some may be public speaking, others can have trouble following the rules, for Vanessa, this dragon is her nationality. Nationality should not be something a person should be ridiculed about. People should always be accepting to another person's background, but despite that, racism will always be an existing factor on Earth. Struggling with these factors are never easy, especially when that human being is young. Ever since Vanessa was young, she struggled with not just one part, but all of it. One of the first things people ask one another when getting to know each other is, "where are you from?" For some people, this question might be easy to answer, but for Vanessa it was a little more complicated. Ever since she was little, every time she would say her nationality she would always get nasty comments back. Especially in school, people would refer to her family in some kind of sketchy business.…show more content…
Both her paternal and her maternal grandparents are from Lebanon. When people ask to name one interesting thing about your culture she would always reply with her being from mixed nationality. Half Colombian and half Lebanese are the two things she would answer when someone would ask her. She would always get another odious comment. She would be referred to a terrorist/drug lord family. People would make racist comments telling her rude and unnecessary statements about Lebanon, and how people like that should not be allowed in here.
