Under no circumstances should euthanasia be allowed. Euthanasia is the act of putting to death painlessly or allowing to die, as by withholding extreme medical measures, a person or animal suffering from an incurable, especially a painful, disease or condition (Euthanasia). This practice is not permitted in most countries. In countries where it is legal, such as the Netherlands, the total euthanasia deaths have risen over the years (Onwuteaka-Philipsen). Contrary to what others may think, euthanasia devalues human life, is against the Bible, and gives too much power to doctors. Euthanasia devalues human life. If euthanasia is allowed to exist, it is being said that some lives are not as precious as others. Generally, individuals with disorders, disabilities, or even the elderly are the most susceptible to euthanasia (Arguments). With technology advancing at an astounding rate and remarkable palliative care, euthanasia is no longer an option that even needs to be considered. Palliative care provided by an experienced team can help the patient and loved ones (Arguments). Palliative care done right is able to control and help physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and existential suffering (Arguments). Rather than pressure being put on people to end their lives, encouragement should be given. It should not be assumed that once one reaches a certain hard point in life that all is lost. When hard times come, family and friends ought to be there to help one pull through. Hope should not wane when hardships enter into an individual’s life. Perhaps cures and treatments would have been out by now to aid terminal illnesses if euthanasia was not allowed to continue to impede on the search for cures and treatment options. (NBG5058).
